Arthritis and your dog
Arthritis is a condition that leads to pain and progressive degeneration of the joint.¹ It can affect many aspects of a dog’s life, including causing limited mobility, painful joints, and a poor quality of life. Signs can often be subtle and many dogs won’t yelp, cry, or vocalise the pain they are experiencing. It is therefore important to look out for signs like limping, slowing down on walks, being slow to rise, or having difficulty jumping. While many cases of arthritis occur in older, overweight and larger breed dogs, the condition can affect dogs of all sizes, ages and breeds. Many cases go undiagnosed, because owners assume that slowing down is a natural symptom of getting older. Fortunately, there is a new therapy available to help keep your dog comfortable and enjoying a good quality of life for as long as possible!³
What is Beransa, and how does it work?
Beransa is an innovative new therapy called a Monoclonal Antibody. It is a biological therapy that works like your dog’s own immune system. It targets and neutralises a protein that stimulates pain in patients with arthritis. Through this action, one Beransa injection alleviates pain for a full month in addition to the benefit of a positive safety profile.²
What can I expect from my dog's treatment with Beransa?
- Beransa can be used with other common therapies (e.g., vaccines, flea & tick products, antibiotics).²
- Increased mobility and decreased level of pain.²
- Improved quality of life.
- Reassurance your dog is getting lasting pain relief for a month.²
How is Beransa given?
Beransa is an easy and convenient injection given under the skin, every month, by your vet. This mode of administration removes the need and the challenge of medicating your dog daily.³
When should I come back for the next Beransa injection?
If we have prescribed Beransa, it means that your dog has been diagnosed with arthritis and is in pain. Arthritis is a life-long, painful disease which cannot be cured and will progress over time. It can, however, be effectively managed thanks to Beransa. It is therefore important to stay on top of your dog’s monthly injections and visit us in a timely manner to ensure your beloved dog gets their next injection when needed and remains comfortable!³
If you think your dog may benefit from Beransa then please don't hesitate to give us a call. We'd love to talk to you in person about this treatment and answer any questions or queries you may have.
